Description

Mark Wahlberg stars in Paramount Pictures' inspirational docudrama exploring the remarkable rise of Massachusetts-born lightweight title winner "Irish" Micky Ward. A determined pugilist whose career in the ring was shepherded by his loyal half-brother, Dicky (Christian Bale) -- a hard-living boxer-turned-trainer whose own career in the ring was nearly sent down for the count due to drugs and crime -- perennial underdog Irish Micky rebounded from a disheartening series of defeats to win both the WBU Intercontinental Lightweight title and the WBU Light Welterweight title thanks to a fierce combination of determination and hard work. David O. Russell directs from a script by 8 Mile's Scott Silver and Paul Attanasio (The Bourne Ultimatum).

Really enjoyed watching this movie. Performance by both; Wahlberg & Bale were simply spectacular.

This movie is impossible to watch. Who in their right mind would have as their coach a crack-smoking moron? This movie isn’t believable. I want my money back.

The plot was predictable, but the acting was outstanding. Christian Bale transformed himself into the role, unlike any role I have seen him in. Remarkable, really.

I am aware its mainly about Mark Wahlburg portraying his character of Micky, but the standout performance in mind is Christian Bale as his half brother Dicky.

Easily one of the best movies I've ever seen. I've watched it at least 5-6 times and it never gets old/I love it more each time I see it. The acting could not possibly be better. Christian Bale makes me want to cry with how AMAZING he is, and Melissa Leo and Amy Adams are also SUPERB. Mark Wahlberg also was impressive which was surprising to me since I don't normally enjoy his acting. If you don't see this movie you are SERIOUSLY missing out on a cinematic masterpiece!!

As a person who follows the sport of Boxing very very closely I've never liked Boxing movies besides Rocky & the reason for that is because the fighting scenes are poorly done & it just takes away from the sweet science. Anyway, the fighting scenes weren't that bad in this film & even Mark Wahlberg & Christian Bale played their part well as Micky Ward & his trainer Dick, my problem with this film is the fact that Ward's fight's were misplaced & not at all how it really happened in real life especially his last fight, his real world title shot & was against Verno Philips where he was stopped in 3 but instead they skipped right ahead to his fight with Shea Neary which was for a minor title that means nothing, & acted like it was a huge success. Oh & how could you forget the Gatti trilogy?.
