Description

Academy Award® winner Gary Oldman gives a “towering performance” (Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair) in acclaimed director Joe Wright’s soaring drama DARKEST HOUR. As Hitler’s forces storm across the European landscape and close in on the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill (Oldman) is elected the new Prime Minister. With his party questioning his every move, and King George VI (Ben Mendelsohn) skeptical of his new political leader, it is up to Churchill to lead his nation and protect them from the most dangerous threat ever seen. Also starring Academy Award® nominee Kristin Scott Thomas and Lily James, DARKEST HOUR is a powerful, inspirational drama.

Shows the darkest days and the palpable fears of a nation on the brink. I can only imagine what was going through Churchill’s mind at the time. The best scene is when Churchill is riding the underground and rides with the people. The scene provides inspiration, hope, and a resolve on a human level which propels Winston to rally Parliament and the people against the Nazi’s in the Battle for Britain was the tide that turned the World and saved Western civilization !

Much like Daniel Day Lewis' Lincoln, Gary Oldman gives the finest portrayal of his career. For a movie that is mostly all talking (with little action that todays audiences seem to thirst for), the acting keeps us fully engaged until the climactic speech that unified a nation. A brilliant motion picture and one of the best in the last couple of years.

Like any truly great person, it is impossible to capture the measure of Churchill on filme. Gary Oldman was deserved of an Oscar long ago and it could be argued that this was not his best (Coppola's Dracula) but notwithstanding, the filme educates and adorns the man who did save Western Civilization (stunning) with a certain fraility and humane (ness) which is oft left aside to the more severe views of this Giant of a man. The King's role is prescient as are his lines and methinks the filme lines up rightly for the British Empire, perhaps not as much for the viewers. Nonetheless it is elegant and meaningful. Capturing true greatness is nary impossilbe. It is a fleeting as the Spring...

While Gary Oldman did an excellent job portraying Winston Churchill, the actuall history is entirely suspect (particularly the subway scene) in that it never happened.
